In recent years, the demand for ultra-high strength steels, the so called X-grades, continuously rose. The main application for the X-grades is offshore pipes fulfilling their duties under extreme conditions. The X-grades are hot rolled and then wound-up to coils.
X-grade coils are extreme. They feature very high tensile strengths and they are coiled under high strip tensions. These coils are fully loaded with high spring forces, which have to be kept under control at any time.
X-grade coils place specific and extreme demands on their strapping. The strapping needs to be extraordinary strong to keep the spring forces within the coil from breaking out. The strapping needs to be absolutely secure and reliable under all conditions, i.e. during coil handling, coil storage and when the coils are stacked. The sealing must be consistently reliable and render high joint efficiency. The overall strapping solution must be economical.
TITAN developed a dedicated strapping solution for X-grades which comprises a super high tensile strap, an ultra-strong strapping head and a 3 spot welded sealing, based on the ultra-reliable TITANARG® technology.
High tensile strap typically features a tensile strength of approx. 1,000 N/mm2 | 145,038psi resulting in a max. breaking load of up to 28,500N | 6,407lbf at max. strap dimensions. Although this is a real strong strap, it is not strong enough to strap X-grades economically and securely. Often an X-grade coil has to be strapped with 8 or even more straps.
TITAN developed a complete new strap for X-grades, a super high tensile strap called TITAN SuperMEGA. This strap features a tensile strength of approx. 1,250 N/mm2 | 181,297psi resulting in a max. breaking load of up to 57,540N | 12,936lbf at max. strap dimensions. As the TITAN SuperMEGA is twice as strong as the high tensile strap, half the number of straps on an X-grade coil can be saved.
TITAN’s SuperMEGA is the guarantor for significant savings on strap and on strapping operations while at the same time the X-grade coil is strapped securer.
X-grades coils are extreme. Only a dedicated strap, like the TITAN SuperMEGA, and a dedicated strapping head represent an adequate strapping solution … for your most economic and securest X-grade coil handling.
