    Thermo or friction welded joint?

Heater blade or moving welder plates?

Mainly there are two PP/PET sealing technologies around, the thermo welding and the friction welding. But which of the two is superior over the other?

The thermo welded joint is performed by the quick insertion and retraction of a heater blade between the two ends of the PP/PET strap. By this, the surfaces of the strap ends melt. After the retraction of the heater blade, the two strap ends are pressed together mechanically for a completion of the thermo welding process.

The friction welded joint is performed by a high frequency movement of one end of the PP/PET strap against the other, stationary strap end. This high frequency movement generates heat and the surfaces of the strap ends melt. After the movement is stopped, the two strap ends are pressed together mechanically for a completion of the friction welding process.

There are certain advantages and disadvantages of both welding methods and none is generally superior over the other. It really depends on the strapping application.

TITAN supports and offers both PP/PET sealing technologies. Please share your strapping application with us and we will be grateful to be of assistance and advice for you!
