TITAN Quality Control PET strap

Bouncer at the petting zoo

When it comes to the quality of our PET straps, there is no room for compromise. Our experts keep a close eye on every single detail: materials, processes and results – from the very first flake to the very last coil. For mechanical stability and reliable processing that you can rely on 100%. Because it comes from TITAN.

What matters is what goes in at the front

Regular raw material inspection – flake by flake: Only 100% flawless material that meets all the criteria of the TITAN inspection stands a chance of being turned into TITAN PET straps. That is why our incoming goods inspection puts flakes and regranulates through their paces. The focus is on three key aspects:

  • Visual purity: Every delivery is visually inspected for impurities, foreign particles and colour variations. Only raw materials that are visually flawless are considered – as any visual deviation may indicate quality issues.
  • Residual moisture: Excessive moisture content in the granulate leads to processing issues, air pockets in the strap or an uneven surface structure. That is why we measure moisture levels precisely, thereby ensuring consistent processing of the highest standard.
  • Intrinsic viscosity (IV): The IV is a key indicator of the molecular structure and thus the mechanical performance of the resulting strap. A stable IV value guarantees uniform melt viscosity, improved process control in the extruder and reliable tensile strength in the end product.

Only what meets all criteria 100% is allowed to proceed. Everything else? Is rejected.

Mechanical tests with maximum reliability

At regular intervals, all TITAN PET straps undergo tensile testing on state-of-the-art testing machines. In doing so, we analyse the three key parameters that determine their load-bearing capacity and reliability in everyday use.

  • Breaking load: This value indicates the maximum tensile force a PET strap can withstand before it breaks. The higher the breaking load, the more secure the strapping – even under strong springback forces or dynamic load changes. In our mechanical quality control process, we ensure that all specifications are met 100% for every PET strap.
  • Tensile strength: Here we test the strap’s resistance in relation to its cross-sectional area. High tensile strength ensures reliable load securing – even with significant temperature fluctuations or harsh storage conditions.
  • Elongation: The measure of the strap’s elasticity is also scrutinised in detail. It determines how flexibly the strap reacts to tension without tearing. The correct elongation is crucial for an optimal balance between holding force and flexibility. This is particularly important for sensitive or bulky packages.

For high-strength straps – such as those used in the fibre bale industry – we go even further: here, we also produce realistic test closures and test them directly on the machines. This means we know not only how strong the strap is, but also how well it performs in practical use.

Integrated measurement systems that don’t miss a thing

At TITAN, quality assurance for PET straps also takes into account the process leading up to the final result. That is why we use a high-precision measuring system integrated directly into the production line, which continuously monitors two key parameters.

  • Product width monitoring: The width of every TITAN PET strap is measured in real time during production and compared with the target values. This ensures that the strap will fit reliably into your machines later on – without jamming, malfunctions or unnecessary material waste.
  • Monitoring of strap thickness: The strap thickness has a significant influence on its mechanical properties. Our inline system measures it continuously and in high resolution, so that even the smallest deviation can be detected immediately and corrected automatically. Before a fault even arises.

All data collected is stored, documented and used for ongoing process optimisation. The result: consistent strap quality that you can rely on 100%. Because it comes from TITAN.

Final inspection on the roll

Before a PET strap leaves the TITAN production line, it must pass final inspection. Only when every single roll meets the specified requirements exactly is it labelled and released. In this final stage of TITAN’s quality control process for PET straps, we check:

  • Strap width: The strap width of every finished roll is measured manually – as an additional final check to complement the automated in-line system. This ensures that every PET strap on the delivered coil fits your plant perfectly – down to the millimetre.
  • The roll weight: Each roll is weighed and compared with the expected target weight. Any deviations would indicate material or production defects, which we consistently rule out.
  • Compliance with specifications: Width and weight are checked against the tolerance ranges stored in the system. Only when all values fall within the standard range is the strap given series approval – including batch number and traceability.

Every roll is tested. Every roll is documented. And every roll is a double TITAN promise: reliable PET-strapping and maximum transport safety for your goods.

A PET strap is only as good as the sum of its test results. That is why we monitor every parameter thoroughly and systematically. From viscosity to elongation – all under close scrutiny.
