Wood and its requirements – and how to strap it securely for transport
The wood industry is one of the largest industries in the world. It encompasses a wide range of manufacturing processes. Wood is an indispensable raw material in our daily lives, particularly for the manufacture of furniture, paper and wood-based materials, as well as for the construction industry. Due to the material’s specific physical properties, it places particular demands on the strapping process.
Transport safety is a priority at TITAN
Wood is a delicate material with a mind of its own: if exposed to excessive moisture, it can swell or even go mouldy; it is susceptible to insect infestation and can fade when exposed to UV radiation. Mechanical stresses such as impacts or friction can leave visible marks on wood and impair its quality. This means that particularly high standards must be applied to the packaging of this natural product to ensure its safety during transport.
Why PET strap is the right choice for your wood
To avoid damaging sawn timber boards and chipboard during strapping, PET-straps with a wide range of technical specifications are particularly well suited. Unlike steel strap, PET-strapg stands out for its special stretch properties. Why is this important? Wood is susceptible to thermal expansion and reacts to temperature fluctuations. Strapping with a steel strap would not adapt to the change in volume. Our PET-strapping, with an elongation of up to 14%, counteracts this without any problems. And corrosion is not an issue.
Naturally, it is possible to dispense with pallets as load carriers at the customer’s request. When strapping pallet-free stacks of chipboard, wooden runners are placed beneath the products to prevent damage to the outer edges of the bottom chipboard sheet, thereby serving as a load carrier. And edge protection, also applied automatically, ensures perfect transport safety.
With the innovative TITAN straps, undamaged transport is guaranteed. After all, the timber industry, with its specific requirements, is in good hands with us.
When strapping wooden products, there are a number of factors to bear in mind – from the ambient humidity and lighting conditions during storage and transport to the material of the strap.
