New investments in automation and turnkey machining
TITAN Umreifungstechnik GmbH & Co. KG has taken a significant step towards securing its future and maintaining its competitiveness. By investing in several highly automated manufacturing solutions, the company is firmly committed to modern production technologies and efficient, process-integrated manufacturing.
With these latest investments, TITAN is pursuing the clear objective of maintaining the long-term competitiveness of production at its Schwelm site. Automation plays a central role in this: through the optimised interaction between people and machines, highly skilled workers can be deployed more efficiently, whilst unmanned shifts during the evening and night hours maximise productivity.
“The new machines not only increase capacity, but also the quality and precision of our manufacturing. We can already see that spindle hours have increased significantly." explains the plant manager at TITAN in Schwelm. “This investment is an important step towards securing our site and addressing the challenges of the skills shortage with intelligent automation solutions. At the same time, we are increasing our production capacity.”
Peter Wilhelm Lenzen, sole shareholder of the Lenzen Gruppe, also emphasises the strategic importance of automation: “Modern manufacturing concepts with automated machining centres are essential for securing the company’s future. We are investing specifically in technologies that will position us successfully in the market in the long term.”
With this decision, TITAN is relying on trusted partners whose innovative manufacturing solutions make a decisive contribution to increasing efficiency and optimising processes. The high degree of process integration and flexible automation underlines TITAN’s commitment to continuously developing as a leading company in strapping technology and remaining at the forefront of technology.
Highly flexible working without interruption

At the heart of the new manufacturing solution at TITAN’s Schwelm production site are high-productivity horizontal machining centres of the latest generation. Connected via a linear pallet storage system (LPP) with 40 pallet positions, they operate virtually without interruption, minimising downtime and maximising machine utilisation. The provision of dedicated set-up stations allows different components to be prepared in parallel whilst machining is in progress. A modern control system complements the concept with clear and efficient order management.
6 axes for maximum precision
A highlight of the investment is a state-of-the-art turning and milling machine equipped with a second tool holder for the six-sided complete machining of complex workpieces. Particularly innovative is the gearHOBBING technology cycle, which enables the production of extremely fine gear teeth on components for the subsequent conveyance of straps in the final strapping systems. In combination with a Robo2Go system, the machine enables fully automated production with unmanned loading and automatic removal of scrap pieces. A newly developed magazine cabinet with several drawers provides the necessary space for raw parts and finished workpieces. The result is continuous operation without manual intervention.
5-axis machining with robotic automation

The new manufacturing concept is complemented by milling machines for 5-axis simultaneous machining. These are ideally suited to highly complex components used in TITAN’s strapping machines. Here too, robotic automation ensures continuous operation with the highest precision. The integration of a 38-pallet storage system provides additional flexibility, enabling even small batch sizes to be produced economically and efficiently.
