Designed entirely for automation
For 50 years now, EISEN + STAHL Service Center GmbH has been offering a comprehensive range of steel and processed steel products. Thanks to its high-quality standard products, the company is able to supply the market on demand. To further advance its automation process, the company was looking for a fully automated strapping solution for its products. It found what it was looking for in TITAN.
Combating the skills shortage with fully automated strapping
EISEN + STAHL Service Center GmbH produces individual sheets from the cross-cuts of high-quality steel coils, which must be transported safely. The sheet packs are not customised, but are always identical and standardised. This allows the entire production process – including packaging – to be optimally automated. This was also necessary because, to counteract the ever-increasing shortage of skilled workers, a solution is needed that can manage work processes without human intervention.
The solution should be fully automated plants capable of automatically positioning empty pallets, placing our sheet metal panels onto them and then packaging them. These packages should then be transported to the warehouse without the need for staff.

To ensure both safe transport and protection against environmental influences, TITAN has developed a complete solution that combines both applications. There was one condition: full automation. No problem! Our robotic system, consisting of a cover sheet applicator, edge protection applicator and strapping machine, handles all processes without human intervention. First, the sheet pack to be packed is covered with film to protect the sensitive surface from potential damage. Sheet metal angles are then applied as edge protection to prevent the sharp outer edges of the products from damaging the PET strap or causing injury. Furthermore, our edge protection robot requires no complex programming: it can freely grasp the protective angles in space by measuring the gripping angle using three lasers. This allows the sheets to remain loose on the pallet and be separated by sheet magnets. The package is now ready for TITAN strapping. Thanks to the full automation of all processes, consistently high packaging quality is guaranteed.
The result is a complete production line for strapping
Thanks to our fully automated complete solution, EISEN + STAHL Service Center GmbH can continue operations as usual despite the shortage of skilled workers, whilst deploying its staff resources in other areas. In this way, we play a significant role in shaping our customer’s automation process. But TITAN also achieved an important personal milestone during the collaboration: for the first time, our latest-generation strapping head for friction welding was used by a customer.
